Plaincat Entertainment Pictures is a British film company founded and operated by mx reigner, based in London.
The name of the studio came from a mystery painting Reigner once hoped to buy in a Brighton art gallery, depicting a cat walking through the English plains.
The painting was sold to an unknown buyer, but Reigner based the Plaincat ident off of a photograph taken of the painting at the time. The ident can be seen before every feature film produced by Plaincat.
mx reigner is the auteur writer-director of multiple feature films currently in pre-production. reigner’s first film carves out its own space in reigner’s favorite genre, gothic sci-fi, kicking off a new franchise set in the reigner Cinematic Universe (RCU), itself part of the larger Teapot Universe which contains all films by mx reigner.
Planned for a release in 2027, The Cabyn (Plaincat Entertainment Pictures), currently stands as the first example of a film shot for the vertical media format alongside a traditional theatrical release, and features spellbinding visions of Future Histories, the titular subject of reigner’s PhD (and seminal philosophy book) that informs some of the onscreen depictions.
reigner’s second feature film, with a planned 2029 release, yet again defines a new niche all its own, this time in horror. It is a genre borne of reigner’s signature style and a departure from conventions: psychedelic horror.
Written in conjunction with pre-PhD research defining Polytext and Psychovisual Cinema, every aspect of the production lives and breathes the material onscreen. It is an extraordinary horror film.

Reigner has written and self-published two books, one scientific paper, and one MA dissertation to date.
Their first book, Reignerian Philosophy: One Worldview for Future Histories (available here) is a seminal work that aims to formalize a moral system for the future era, a modernisation of contemporary and historical philosophies, drawing from the work of Daniel Kolak (I Am You) and Aldous Huxley (The Doors of Perception).
Their second book, released under the penname “mars”, is entitled How to Be a Unicorn (available here) and offers a slightly more personal and yet slightly more relatable toolkit for experiencing life in the complex modern world. They formalize what they refer to as Unicorn Existentialism, which stands as a modernisation of traditional existentialism.
Their scientific paper, The Reignerian Theory of Everything (available here) builds upon the timeless physics of Julian Barbour and proposes that reality is a collection of timeless “Nows,” with the universe’s laws, forces, and even the three dimensions of space emerging from the mathematical requirement for a consistent, unified algebra.
Their MA Dissertation "Psychovisual Cinema and Polytext" (available here) is an exciting formalization of the key dimensions of textual inerpretation and formation, useful to all students, masters and fans of film and other media.
